The Equinix Data Centre in Alexandria had a project scope involving managing the finalisation of design for the 18,000m² facility while fast-tracking the construction approvals and delivery activities. Time being of the essence, the construction programme had a target completion duration of less than 12 months, including independent commissioning.
The Stage 1 Works of a three stage programme involved the complete refurbishment of the Harry Seidler warehouse structure through base building works, façade, external civil, landscaping, office and amenities, 30 new plant rooms and the fitting out of two co location areas. Stages 2 and 3 are new co location areas.
The Construction Management approach allowed John Holland to work collaboratively with the client to provide innovative systems to ensure project timings and objectives were met. Complexities included working within an existing building, site contamination, negotiating and expediting long lead equipment, and maintaining the highest quality standard on site to achieve the 99.999% reliability target.
In a first for Australia, the project has been designed and delivered to achieve a US Green Council Gold LEED rating.
